Who Cares?
To answer the question, I do, as do many others who are carers, whether they know it or not.
Who cares is a platform to support and celebrate the unsung role of carers.
Professionally I work as a GP in South London. As I entered the 26th year of working at the same practice, I felt it was time to start documenting the insights I had gained and the collective experience of my colleagues in trying to provide health and social care during this time. Personally, I am now invested in this area because my parents and other relatives are becoming frail and need support, and it is no exaggeration to say this has been a challenge.
Unfortunately, my own experience is mirrored by those of my patients and their relatives, which has prompted me to start this platform to celebrate the successes but also to highlight obstacles that need to be overcome. Often, it can feel like nobody cares when social care is needed, and the journey can be exhausting and lonely. But I hope this resource can change the phrase of resignation “who cares!” to one which provides an answer for all of us who need or provide care.
