I have always loved mythology, especially Greek, and the riddle to be discussed was the one between King Oedipus and the Sphinx. Many people will know the Sphinx as the serene looking statue in Egypt near the Pyramids, but at the time of Oedipus, the Sphinx was a fierce creature half human/half lion which guarded the city of Thebes and would kill anyone who could not answer its riddle.

These are the words of the daughter of one of my patients who was diagnosed with dementia during the pandemic; and normally I would signpost them to the relevant charities and advocacy organisations like AGE U.K. and Alzheimer’s Society.
8.9.2022 was a date which will live on in history as it was when Queen Elizabeth the Second passed away after being the longest reigning monarch in UK history. Even though we knew this was going to happen the country’s security services and media had already prepared for this eventuality by coding it as Operation London Bridge which was put in to action whilst the national collectively grieved.
